Good call, Kevin. I had been so worried about localized
color and its transition into light and shadow that I neglected warm and
cool/colored light sources and there effects on form. Had me reading
through Gurney's Color and Light. I wanted to keep it a bit more subdued
then in the paint over but even the little bit I did pushed it a great
deal. I think I have it where I want now and here it is.

Merc Paintover
Will, incase you were interested in what a different type of lighting situation could look like for this char, this is a potential direction. I got a lot of influence from Dave Rapoza & the amazing way he lights his characters.
I did not change much from your original design. just some changes in warm / cool colors, light / dark, messing aroudn w/ opacity & rim lighting. This paintover is still far far from perfect, and in no way is this the "right" way to make a character illustration, just the direction I would personally take it.
Hope this helped mate,
Cheers!

TS Designs
Hey everyone, hope you've been well! Cydney and I caught up a couple weekends ago and her stuff is looking great. I have been insanely busy working on finishing up the VFX for Iron Man 3! It's going pretty well, but I'll be ready for a break when it's over.
In my spare time my big project has been working on this space western comic! Here's a sneak peak at some of the designs. We're aiming to release the first issue in mid-April.
More stuff soon! I gotta get some pages done :)
