Yo all,
Sorry I have been away so long.  Being out of LA has given me a lot of excuses to slack off and have too much fun but I am trying to reign myself in and make some progress.  A friend of mine is putting together a bronze-age/early-man D&D campaign setting and that has given me a lot of ideas to practice digital painting.  all of these are worked off of scanned sketches (like the unfinished portions of the first image) then painted over/manipulated with photoshop.  Going to practice on increasing my color and tonal contrasts in the future.  How are your classes going, guys?

  3. Hey buddy,

Good to see you're back on the wagon! Nice stuff here -- the raptor is my favorite. I really love the color palette you've got on him (and on all of these, you're a color natural). I like his blue feet and the patterns on his gear.

Desert/Wall environment is great. Reminds me of your entertainment design universe. Would love to see more of that.

Check your circle-in-perspective on his tail band. I would use a towel or small sheet/blanket for tunic reference -- way easier than trying to figure out fabric on your own. Also, he's a raptor, so don't forget to give him big slashing claws!

Forest scene is looking good. Maybe try pushing darker in value on the foreground, both to separate it out from the background and to pop those pretty blue flowers.

Keep 'em coming! Give us a campaign synopsis of the characters and stuff so we can get in on the fun :)

  4. Thanks all.

Kevin: I am begging to believe that feeling my work sucks means I am getting over a hump art wise and noticing my mistakes. I guess that means its a good thing... I hope.

Katsun: I have been having fun revisiting past designs and drawings. I feel a little guilty as I should be working on new stuff.

Sam: Yeah, lots of mistakes to correct. I think what I should do is repaint them from scratch with all new compositions. The landscapes are especially quick to gratify and work on. At the moment I am just trying to re-imagine classic D&D classes in a bronze age/stone age setting. There is also a dominant dinosaur type race that doesn't think much of man moving up in the world.
