I'm thinking about turning this thumb for Hightower in a larger scale line drawing.

  1. Nice! I would lower the horizon line -- it will make your perspective much easier for the final drawing. Drop it to at least halfway down the drawing, preferably toward the bottom third, I think. Also, I like how you've pulled the camera out form your original sketch -- I think you could go a little more on the vertical cropping, and get the top and bottom of the island in, which will really sell that it's floating.

All in all, off to a good start. What kind of architecture are you looking at / thinking about for the island?

  2. Lookin' good. The widescreen layout is working really well. You are now able to include the foreground hence making the entire scene more dramatic! How's Trans class btw?

  3. In Trans class I'm rendering cubes, cylinders, spheres and cones with marker. It's a little dry, but surprisingly challenging, and I'm getting a lot out of the work. How's digi-painting, guy?

Sam, good suggestions and crits. Dunno about the architecture exactly, but I do feel it should align somewhat with the golden age of sea pirates, whenever that was. So, no super glossy, steely buildings, but wood, mud, brick.

  4. Digital painting starts next week! In my head I see it kind of like the Hohenzollern Castle...
